New Delhi, May 21: The Border Security Force (BSF) has achieved a historic milestone during its Diamond Jubilee year. The first all-women team from the BSF has successfully scaled the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest (8848.86 meters), under the mission titled ‘Vande Mataram.’
The BSF announced that this expedition coincides with the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, ‘Vande Mataram,’ and is part of the BSF’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The team included Constable Kausar Fatima from Ladakh, Constable Munmun Ghosh from West Bengal, Constable Rebecca Singh from Uttarakhand, and Constable Tsering Chorath from Kargil.
According to the BSF, these mountaineers, hailing from diverse backgrounds, showcased courage, patience, and determination in challenging conditions, embodying India’s spirit of ‘Unity in Diversity.’
After the successful ascent, BSF Director General Praveen Kumar communicated with the team via radio, congratulating them on behalf of the entire force and the nation. He remarked that this expedition symbolizes the indomitable spirit, professional capability, and dedication of BSF personnel.
The BSF noted that this mission was inspired by messages from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding women’s empowerment. Prime Minister Modi has frequently stated that Indian daughters are reaching new heights in fields ranging from space to sports and battlefields. Home Minister Amit Shah has also emphasized that empowering women strengthens the entire nation.
The BSF described this achievement as a historic moment for both the force and the country. For the first time, female mountaineers from the BSF sang ‘Vande Mataram’ from the summit, enhancing the nation’s pride.
The mission was launched on April 6 from New Delhi by BSF Director General Praveen Kumar. The BSF also announced that the next phase of the expedition will see the male mountaineering team attempt to conquer Mount Lhotse (8516 meters) in the coming days.
Under the ‘Clean Himalayas, Clean Glaciers’ initiative, the BSF team will collect 500 kilograms of waste from Everest’s higher camps and transport it to Namche Bazaar for proper disposal.
The BSF has previously conducted successful expeditions on 50 major peaks, including Mount Everest in 2006 and 2018.
The BSF stated that ‘Mission Vande Mataram’ is a significant step towards promoting women’s empowerment, adventure sports, and enhancing national pride on a global scale. This mission also honors the legacy of ‘Vande Mataram,’ which has inspired a sense of patriotism for generations.
