BRS Legislators Protest for Immediate Release of Fee Reimbursement Fund

Hyderabad, March 23: Legislators from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) staged a protest near the Telangana Assembly on Monday, demanding the immediate release of the fee reimbursement fund.

Before the day’s proceedings began, BRS legislators and council members gathered at Gun Park, displaying placards. They urged the government to promptly release the pending fee reimbursement funds.

Madhu Sudhan Chari, the leader of the opposition in the Legislative Council, stated to the media that the Telangana government is allegedly playing with students’ lives, similar to its treatment of other societal groups.

He claimed that the delay in releasing the fee reimbursement fund is forcing many students to abandon their studies. “We demand the immediate release of the ₹12,000 crore in pending fee reimbursements,” he asserted.

Chari also accused the government of being indifferent to the welfare of students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.

He alleged that K. Chandrashekar Rao continued the fee reimbursement scheme initiated by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. “While KCR created a golden path for students, the current government is distancing education from poor students. We demand that the fee reimbursement fund be released immediately and punctually.”

Following this, BRS legislators began marching towards the Assembly building with placards. Security personnel stopped them, asking them to leave the placards outside. When the legislators insisted on bringing the placards inside, marshals confiscated them.

The BRS submitted a notice for a suspension of the proceedings to discuss the fee reimbursement in both houses, but the presiding officers rejected these notices.

Meanwhile, in response to the BJP’s call for a siege of the Assembly over various issues, police have heightened security around the Assembly building.

The BJP has called for protests regarding the government’s failure to implement six guarantees, the displacement of families due to the Muzi Riverfront development project, and other issues.
