Brandon Lowe Shares Positive Insights from First Spring Training with Pirates

Pittsburgh, March 6: After spending a decade with the Tampa Bay Rays, All-Star second baseman Brandon Lowe is embracing his first spring training with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Lowe was traded to the Pirates in December, alongside teammates Jake Mangum and Mason Montgomery. His familiarity with some players on the team, along with the presence of his fellow trade companions, has facilitated a smoother transition.

“It’s going well. You never know what to expect when you get to a new spot, but thankfully we had some relationships with some players already, and getting traded over with a couple of guys makes the transition a little bit easier,” Lowe shared with MLB.com earlier this week. “The group here has been awesome, making it really easy for me.”

Lowe is enthusiastic about the talent the Pirates have assembled this offseason and is eager for the upcoming season. “I think the biggest thing that they did is realize what they had here. The starting pitching staff, the reliever corps, and even some of the position player core… Going out and getting the free agents… You add those little injections into the lineup, and it makes it a whole lot easier to go out there and perform,” he noted.

The Pirates are counting on Lowe to significantly enhance their offense at second base. The two-time All-Star hit 31 home runs last season and has recorded at least 21 homers in four of the last five years.

At 31, Lowe is also playing for his next contract, adding extra motivation to his performance this year. If the season unfolds positively and he enjoys his time in Pittsburgh, he may consider making the Steel City his long-term home.
