New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Central Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju targeted Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, suggesting he should learn selfless service from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP workers. Rijiju also criticized the opposition alliance ‘India’ for staging protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
On the same day, members of the ‘India’ coalition marched towards the Election Commission‘s headquarters to voice their demands. However, security forces intervened and halted their progress.
Speaking to reporters, Rijiju dismissed the opposition’s protests as mere “drama.” He remarked, “Every day, the Congress Party, Rahul Gandhi, and their allies engage in this drama, attacking the Election Commission and the Supreme Court. It is time to put an end to this. This has been ongoing since 2014. How long will it continue?”
He emphasized that in a democracy, serving the public garners support and mandates. If a mandate is not received, the Election Commission is blamed. When the Supreme Court demands an apology, it is later attacked, with claims of distrust in the judiciary.
Rijiju asserted that calling the Election Commission and the government “thieves” would neither strengthen democracy nor help revive the Congress Party. He specifically urged Rahul Gandhi to observe PM Modi and BJP workers, who serve the nation selflessly. “You should do the same. Stop this drama,” he advised.
He added that consistent public service would earn trust from the people, while protests and political narratives would not be beneficial. Rijiju also pointed out the Emergency imposed during former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s tenure, criticizing Congress for ruling the country for 55 years, including two years under Emergency, during which he alleged the preamble of the Constitution was altered.
He called on Congress and Rahul Gandhi to cease promoting narratives that serve “anti-India forces.” According to him, foreign entities continuously push narratives aimed at weakening India, discrediting constitutional institutions, and misleading citizens. He urged Congress to refrain from supporting such forces.
Rijiju noted that the public is tired of this “drama” and no longer wishes to witness it. He stated that the country has transformed and is now moving towards the goal of a “developed India.”
He concluded by saying that no one can become Prime Minister solely based on their family background anymore. The youth of the country are working alongside PM Modi to achieve the vision of a developed India. He advised Congress that if they genuinely seek a public mandate, they should focus on service rather than creating narratives on social media. Rijiju claimed that he himself served the people of villages for 25 years while in opposition.
He asserted that the entire nation is united in realizing PM Modi’s vision for a developed India, and no one will support the “drama” being enacted by Rahul Gandhi and his allies.
