New Delhi, 2 January: A blast at the Court of Appeal building in Faryab province on Thursday has raised fresh security concerns in northern Afghanistan. Emergency responders rushed to the site following the explosion. Details about casualties are yet to be confirmed.

The blast occurred while Taliban officials were inside the building attending a security meeting, leading to speculation that the meeting was the target of the attack.

According to Afghanistan’s news agency Khaama Press, some sources claimed the explosion was caused by a rocket attack, while others suggested it was a planted mine. Health officials reported that several dead and injured individuals were taken to hospitals.

The exact number of casualties has not been released. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the Taliban have not issued any official statement regarding the incident or its aftermath.

Local officials recalled that in October 2025, a hand grenade exploded inside a mosque during evening prayers in Parwan province, injuring nine people.

Khaama Press reported that the grenade blast took place on 19 October 2025 in Shinwari district during evening prayers. All nine injured were rushed to medical facilities. Witnesses said the man who threw the grenade was a Taliban member and was also wounded in the blast.

Authorities have not provided further details about the suspect’s identity or why he carried weapons inside the mosque. A week before this incident, armed men opened fire on worshippers during prayers in Bamiyan province.
