New Delhi, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Harsh Malhotra, the president of the Delhi BJP, has raised questions about the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal and his family, stating that they were registered voters in Ghaziabad before 2013, complicating their voter mapping in Delhi.
Malhotra emphasized that AAP leaders, including Kejriwal and Saurabh Bhardwaj, often seek new controversies to remain in the news. He pointed out that for the past two and a half months, AAP leaders have focused on student-related issues in light of the Chandigarh and Delhi University student union elections. However, following the rejection by students at both institutions, Bhardwaj has now shifted attention to the SIR (Systematic Voter Registration) issue.
The BJP leader criticized Bhardwaj, who claims to be an unemployed leader, for misleading the public with dramatic statements. Malhotra insisted that no matter how hard they try, the Kejriwal family cannot mislead Delhi residents regarding the SIR notice issue.
According to the SIR regulations, only voters mapped from the 2002 Delhi voter list can be included in the current voter rolls. Malhotra reiterated that everyone is aware that the Kejriwal family was registered in Ghaziabad prior to 2013, making their mapping in Delhi impossible.
Bhardwaj held a press conference on Sunday, questioning the integrity of a three-time Chief Minister‘s voting rights, suggesting it raises concerns for the common citizen. Malhotra responded by stating that mapping in the SIR system requires individuals to have been voters in Delhi as of 2002. He added that the process for obtaining a voter ID in Delhi is now open, allowing anyone, including the Kejriwal family, to register, provided they cancel their previous voter registration elsewhere.
Every individual is permitted to have only one voter ID in the country.
