BJP MP Ghulam Ali Khatana Defends Law Enforcement Actions Amid Protests

New Delhi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : BJP Member of Parliament Ghulam Ali Khatana has responded to Supreme Court orders regarding the detention of peaceful protesters and the opposition’s planned demonstrations on October 12. He also countered Rahul Gandhi‘s accusations of undermining democracy during a student assembly in Chennai.

In an interview, Khatana stated, “The work of law enforcement agencies is challenging. It requires precision akin to balancing on the edge of a sword. While protesters have the right to demonstrate, citizens also have rights to work, visit hospitals, and attend school. Therefore, when law enforcement receives information or suspects potential damage to public property or disorder, they sometimes must take strict measures for the public’s welfare.”

Reacting to Gandhi’s remarks at the ‘Students’ Echo’ event, where the Congress leader asserted that they would not be intimidated by those attempting to dismantle democracy, Khatana expressed strong disagreement. He emphasized the need for parliamentary decorum in public statements and urged Gandhi to reflect on the Congress party’s past actions during its rule, particularly during the Emergency when media freedoms were severely restricted.

On the opposition’s planned protests, Khatana noted that MPs have been denied opportunities to participate in about eight to ten sessions. He argued that Congress should focus on constructive dialogue instead of incitement. He added, “The Congress party has entangled the nation in scandals like 2G. It is Prime Minister Modi’s leadership that has empowered today’s youth, providing them with the world’s most affordable internet services and real-time transactions. Congress only seeks to instill fear among the populace.”
