Kolkata, May 27: The BJP has intensified its stance on the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants possessing voter and Aadhaar cards in West Bengal. Minister Dilip Ghosh stated on Wednesday that action against these immigrants should have been taken long ago.
Speaking to reporters, Ghosh questioned, “Why should they stay here? They are living in India illegally and availing all facilities. The previous government made them citizens and voters, providing them with benefits. This will no longer be tolerated, and illegal individuals will be separated.”
He emphasized that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made it clear that illegal immigrants will be sent back. Ghosh warned, “It would be better if they leave on their own. They have enjoyed the benefits for long enough. Otherwise, the government will have to take action.”
Ghosh also called for cooperation from all parties in development efforts, stating, “TMC MLAs and MPs have come to share their views. They are also attending meetings in North Bengal. We are inviting everyone. Contributions from all are essential for development. Those chosen by the public should be included in the process.”
He stressed that opposition parties should also take responsibility for the state’s development. Ghosh reiterated that the BJP government aims to work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
In a related matter, 15 individuals who protested during a Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the Election Commission were presented in court by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Ghosh reacted strongly, stating, “It is unacceptable for government employees to protest against the Election Commission. Those whose statements prompted the protests will also be brought to light.”
