Kolkata, March 26: The political landscape in West Bengal is heating up with escalating accusations. Agnimitra Paul, the BJP MLA from Asansol South, has labeled the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as “anti-Hindu,” claiming they exploit the Muslim community solely for votes.
This statement emerged during protests against alleged police interference in Ram Navami preparations in the Bhawanipur assembly constituency. The protests were led by Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly.
Suvendu Adhikari is contesting from Bhawanipur this election, facing off against Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee.
In an interview with a news agency, Paul stated, “The TMC is anti-Hindu, and for the past 15 years, Hindus have faced oppression to send a message to a particular community. Everyone knows which community I am referring to.”
He accused the TMC of using the Muslim community as a vote bank, asserting that they have realized that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has only used them for electoral gains without delivering any substantial benefits.
On the issue of Ram Navami, the BJP MLA criticized the government, claiming that there is discrimination against religious events in the state.
Paul alleged that Hindus are required to seek permission for Durga Puja and Ram Navami rallies. He accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of making decisions that hurt Hindu sentiments while appeasing the Muslim community, calling it “dirty politics.”
He further stated that if the TMC had prioritized governance over religion, the party’s situation would be much better today.
Agnimitra Paul also raised serious concerns regarding the West Bengal police, claiming, “Senior police officials here do not make independent decisions and merely follow the Chief Minister’s directives. However, junior officers desire change.”
He asserted that people in the state, regardless of their religion, are now demanding change. There is a growing sentiment that politics is solely centered around religion, prompting calls for transformation.
