Pune: The mother of BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla was seriously injured after being hit by a car driven by an unknown individual in Pune, Maharashtra. Following the incident, the accused fled the scene.
Shahzad Poonawalla shared the news on social media, stating, “A person deliberately ran his car over my mother and fled after leaving her seriously injured. She is scheduled for surgery. Please pray for her recovery.”
He described his mother as a kind and compassionate person and expressed how painful it is to see such an incident happen to her at this age. He appealed to the public to pray for her speedy recovery.
Along with his post, Poonawalla shared a photo from the hospital showing his mother lying on a bed with medical monitoring equipment around her. Her face was covered in the image.
Shahzad Poonawalla has also appealed to the Pune City Police to arrest the accused promptly and ensure that justice is served. Additionally, he has informed the Chief Minister’s office of Maharashtra about the incident.
As of now, Pune Police have not issued an official statement regarding the case. It is expected that they will soon apprehend the accused and take strict action.
Shahzad Poonawalla is a national spokesperson of the BJP and a lawyer by profession. Earlier associated with the Congress party, he left it in 2017 after publicly questioning Rahul Gandhi’s appointment as party president. He later became a vocal critic of Congress and officially joined BJP in 2021.
