New Delhi, June 24: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has outrightly dismissed the statement from the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, which claimed that discrimination and atrocities against the Muslim community have increased over the past decade. The board alleged that mosques and madrasas are being demolished illegally, and that Muslims have become mere vote banks. The BJP asserts that this statement is a result of the Congress agenda, emphasizing that there is no better country for Muslims than India, no better friend than Hindus, and no better Prime Minister than Narendra Modi.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal spoke with a news agency, stating that the Muslim Personal Law Board’s claims are completely false. He pointed out that the country has made significant progress over the last eleven years. “Look at any sector, and you will see development taking place. These accusations lack any basis,” he said. He also mentioned the importance of “Vande Mataram,” stating that it was a rallying cry during the freedom struggle against the British. He believes that singing it should not offend anyone.
BJP leader T.R. Srinivasan also rejected the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s statement. He expressed astonishment that a scholar like S.Q.R. Ilyas would make such claims. He noted that the board was established as an NGO in 1973 with Congress’s support. “If such statements are coming from this board, it clearly shows they are promoting the Congress agenda,” he said, adding that the board claims atrocities against Muslims have increased since Modi’s administration began.
He emphasized that no mosque or shrine can be constructed illegally on government or railway land. “If you attempt to do so, you will face government action. Any construction requires government permission,” he stated. He expressed surprise at the statements coming from intellectuals like Ilyas.
Srinivasan cited government statistics showing that the Muslim community benefits significantly from government schemes. “77.82% of scholarships are awarded to Muslims, and 71.50% benefit from fellowships. If the central government discriminates, how do these figures exist?” he questioned. He advised the All India Muslim Personal Law Board to present logical arguments and avoid playing the victim card, emphasizing that this is 21st-century India, where all citizens have access to government data.
He added that the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme primarily benefits the Muslim community. “Today, welfare schemes from the central government are benefiting Muslims across India. I suggest the Muslim Personal Law Board come forward with reasoned arguments,” he concluded.
BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala sharply criticized the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s statement. He argued that a deeper understanding of the board’s statement reveals that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are behind it. Just days ago, Congress claimed that atrocities against Muslims are occurring. “They use the term ‘minority community’ while avoiding ‘Muslim community’ to prioritize their vote bank, which is why they oppose the UCC and ‘Vande Mataram,'” he said. He noted that the board had previously opposed singing “Vande Mataram,” and that the UCC is essential for women’s empowerment.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Shah Nawaz Hussain also condemned the Muslim Personal Law Board’s statement. He asserted that if Muslims are thriving anywhere in the world, it is in India. “For Muslims, there is no better country than India, no better friend than Hindus, and no better Prime Minister than Modi. Our Constitution guarantees equality for all,” he stated. He emphasized that the nation cannot be defamed based on the actions of a few individuals and urged the Muslim Personal Law Board to refrain from making such statements.
