Jamtara, August 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a vigorous protest on Friday in Jamtara, Jharkhand, led by opposition leader Babulal Marandi. This demonstration was in response to the alleged negligence that resulted in the death of a mother and her newborn at the district hospital. The protest also aimed to oppose the filing of FIRs against those who participated in the movement.
BJP workers rallied from the vicinity of the district hospital, chanting slogans as they made their way to the district collectorate. During the gathering, leaders criticized the state government and district administration on various issues, including healthcare, recruitment exams, employment, education, infrastructure, law and order, and corruption.
The incident that sparked this outrage occurred on July 17, when a woman named Reena Devi and her newborn died, leading to public unrest, vandalism, and road blockades. Following this, the hospital administration filed a complaint, resulting in an FIR against eight named individuals, including BJP district president Sumit Sharan, district general secretary Kamlesh Mandal, youth wing district president Kunal Singh, and city president Pradeep Rawat, along with several unidentified persons. Babulal Marandi condemned this as a tyrannical action by the government.
Addressing the crowd, Marandi claimed that the healthcare system in Jharkhand is in disarray, with the government prioritizing its interests over public welfare. He raised concerns about the poor conditions in hospitals and the inefficacy of government ambulance services. Allegations of corruption in the tendering process were also made, suggesting that benefits were being funneled to those close to the government.
Marandi highlighted the state’s rich mineral resources, arguing that the public is not reaping the expected benefits. He also pointed out alleged irregularities in the recruitment exams conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), accusing the government of lacking transparency.
Former MP Sunil Soren accused the administration of biased actions and urged officials to work impartially. Former minister Randhir Singh questioned the state of healthcare services and accused the district administration of operating under pressure.
Former MLA and BJP candidate from Jamtara, Sita Soren, criticized the government’s six-and-a-half-year tenure as a failure, raising issues related to health, employment, and education. She alleged that legal actions were being taken against youth who voice their demands.
