Godda, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : BJP MP Nishikant Dubey from Godda has announced his intention to file a defamation lawsuit against former Finance Secretary Subhash Garg. The dispute escalated following Garg’s comments during a podcast, where he discussed an alleged meeting with Dubey and raised questions about certain government matters.
Dubey vehemently denied Garg’s claims, stating that since becoming an MP in 2009, he has never visited the office of any central government secretary. He also asserted that he has never written a letter regarding the transfer or posting of any official.
In his remarks on Monday, Dubey highlighted that Garg mentioned their meeting in the podcast, implying that he sought favors for transfers. “The truth is, since I became an MP in 2009, I have not gone to any secretary for such matters,” he said.
Dubey challenged Garg to provide evidence if he indeed has proof of Dubey’s visit to his office or any related recommendations. This controversy arose after Garg questioned the recently reported 7.8 percent GDP growth rate for the first quarter of the year.
Garg had raised concerns over discrepancies in data and revisions to previous GDP calculations. In response, Dubey made sharp comments about Garg. During the podcast, Garg claimed that Dubey had approached him with files or cases during Garg’s tenure as a finance secretary, which he viewed as lobbying for corporate interests.
Dubey emphasized that he has never met with any secretary from a central ministry since 2009, following the established protocol that positions secretaries below MPs. He reiterated that he has never written to any official regarding transfers or postings. Garg served as Secretary of Economic Affairs from July 2017 to July 2019 and as Finance Secretary from March to June 2019, before being transferred to the Ministry of Energy, after which he opted for voluntary retirement.
Dubey noted that his disagreements with Garg are not new. He had previously written to the Prime Minister in 2018, questioning Garg’s economic policies and performance as Secretary of Economic Affairs.
