BJP Plans Protest Against Congress MP Accused of Sexual Abuse

BJP to hold a protest against Congress MP accused of sexual misconduct in JNU, demanding accountability from Rahul Gandhi.

New Delhi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for a significant protest against Congress MP Prof. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who has been accused of sexual abuse involving eleven female students at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Despite the university’s decision to dismiss Akoijam, the Congress party, led by Rahul Gandhi, has been criticized for allegedly shielding him. The BJP’s protest, dubbed the “Nari Shakti Hunkar Movement,” is scheduled for October 12 at 11 a.m. It will commence at the Andhra Education Society School on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg and culminate in a demonstration outside the Congress headquarters, Indira Bhavan.

Under the leadership of BJP Mahila Morcha President Roop Kumari Chaudhary and party leader Daggubati Purandeswari, numerous female party members, including MPs, MLAs, and local councilors, will voice their strong opposition to what they describe as Rahul Gandhi’s hypocritical stance on women’s issues.

On October 9, JNU’s internal committee found sufficient grounds to dismiss Akoijam following allegations of offering “relationships for grades” and harassment. Despite this serious action and the pleas of the eleven students, prominent Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, have remained silent, leading to accusations that the Congress party is collectively supporting Akoijam.

Critics argue that Rahul Gandhi, who positions himself as a champion of women’s rights, has failed to acknowledge the suffering of the students involved. The BJP Mahila Morcha has accused the Congress leadership’s silence of being a deliberate attempt to protect offenders, pointing to a history of similar allegations within the party.

In previous years, the Congress has faced criticism for its handling of sexual misconduct cases, including the dismissal of Ankita Dutta, who reported harassment, while allowing the accused to remain in the party. The BJP aims to make it clear through this march that the attempts by Rahul Gandhi to protect the accused will not be tolerated by the women of India. They demand that he expel Akoijam from the party, secure his resignation from the Lok Sabha, and apologize to the eleven students involved.
