Ludhiana, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : A controversy has emerged in Ludhiana, Punjab, following the discovery of an image of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh next to a voter’s name in the electoral roll for the Ludhiana East assembly constituency. This revelation has prompted Congress leaders to call for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Amarinder Singh Raja Wading, the former president of the Punjab Congress, raised concerns about this issue. On Sunday, he highlighted the presence of the image of ‘Shaheed-e-Azam’ Bhagat Singh next to a voter’s name in the electoral list.
Wading has urged the Election Commission to conduct an impartial inquiry and hold those responsible accountable. In a post on the social media platform X, he expressed his dismay, stating that the situation is now under scrutiny.
He claimed that the image of Bhagat Singh was found next to entry number 422 in the voter list for polling booth number 38 in the Ludhiana East constituency. Wading compared this discrepancy to similar incidents in Haryana’s voter lists, raising questions about the integrity of the electoral process.
He demanded answers from the Election Commission regarding how such errors could occur in the voter lists and who would be responsible for investigating these discrepancies. Wading emphasized the need for a transparent investigation and the public release of its findings.
Previously, Sanjay Talwar, a Congress leader and former MLA from Ludhiana East, also addressed this issue, calling for a review of the voter lists across all 235 polling stations in the constituency. According to Talwar, besides the entry at booth number 38, eight other entries allegedly featured incorrect images.
Himanshu Jain, the Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana, stated that they would seek information from the relevant voter registration officer and investigate the matter. The root cause of the alleged error and the extent of the discrepancies can only be determined after an official inquiry.
In the meantime, Congress has urged the Election Commission to ensure transparency and maintain the accuracy of voter lists. Raja Wading stressed that the accuracy of voter lists and the credibility of the electoral process must not be compromised in a democracy.
