BJP MP Dinesh Sharma Calls for Enhanced Security After Chandigarh Blast

New Delhi, April 1: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma has described the blast outside the Punjab BJP office in Chandigarh as unfortunate. He expressed relief that the incident did not result in significant harm but emphasized the need for the state government to implement stricter security measures.

Speaking to reporters, Sharma stated, “The blast outside the BJP office in Chandigarh is regrettable. The state government must exercise greater vigilance. The central government provides all necessary assistance. Ahead of elections in Punjab, some undesirable elements are attempting to disrupt peace. All parties should rise above political interests and prioritize national welfare to maintain law and order.”

Sharma also welcomed the passage of the CAPF (General Administration) Bill 2026 in the Rajya Sabha today. He noted that this bill, passed by a voice vote, will invigorate paramilitary forces and ensure equality in their service conditions. The government is committed to introducing new welfare schemes for these forces. Today, both the CAPF Bill and the Bankruptcy Bill were passed in the Rajya Sabha.

Union Minister Harsh Malhotra raised concerns regarding law and order in Punjab. He remarked that the situation is continuously deteriorating, with ministers behaving inappropriately with officials and later facing consequences. The drug trade is escalating, and youth are falling prey to addiction as the government fails to take action.

Regarding the Chandigarh blast, Malhotra stated, “This incident raises serious questions about the Punjab government and the Chief Minister. I strongly condemn it. If the situation in Punjab remains the same, they will soon face the same fate as those in Delhi.”

A low-intensity blast occurred outside the BJP office in Sector 37 of Chandigarh on Wednesday evening. Police have cordoned off the area. Teams from the NIA, CFSL, and Crime Branch are on-site. Initial investigations suggest the possibility of crude explosives or a scooter battery explosion. No casualties have been reported.
