Muzaffarpur, April 7: In Bihar, while residents struggle to secure cooking gas, a significant illegal LPG gas refilling operation was dismantled late Monday night in Muzaffarpur district. Authorities recovered a gas-filled container during the raid.
According to police reports, SSP Kantesh Kumar Mishra received a tip-off about the illegal refilling activities near Nariyar in the Motipur police station area. Acting on this information, a team was formed under the leadership of DSP Suchitra Kumari. The team included the station heads of Kanti and Motipur, along with the circle inspector of Motipur.
The police team conducted a raid at a suspicious location situated a short distance from the road near Nariyar. During the operation, they uncovered a large network refilling small cylinders directly from a gas tanker. DSP Suchitra Kumari announced on Tuesday that a gas-filled container, a Bolero vehicle, an auto (toto), and 54 gas cylinders were seized at the scene.
An auto intended for local delivery, loaded with several cylinders, was also confiscated. Additionally, special pipes and other equipment used for transferring gas from the tanker to the cylinders were seized. However, the illegal traders and workers managed to flee upon noticing the police. The authorities are now working to trace the owners of the vehicles through their registered numbers.
DSP Suchitra Kumari stated that an investigation is underway. SSP Kantesh Kumar Mishra expressed confidence that the suspects would be apprehended soon. He also suggested that the gang might have connections to Nepal. He urged the public to report any illegal gas refilling activities in their areas to the police control room for prompt action.
