New Delhi, April 18: Union Minister Chirag Paswan has criticized the opposition for their voting behavior regarding the Women Reservation Amendment Bill, which failed to pass in the Lok Sabha. He labeled the opposition as anti-women, claiming they are working against women’s empowerment to prevent them from benefiting from the bill.
In a conversation with reporters, Paswan stated, “Anyone who has read the bill can understand that there cannot be a better proposal. Our delimitation proposal ensured equal representation for every state, with a fair distribution of seats, yet the opposition opposed it. The Home Minister had clearly explained everything. The opposition keeps making excuses to stall the bill. They do not want half the population to receive their rights. Women across the country have been listening to this session of Parliament, and they will respond to the opposition in the future.”
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale added, “The opposition has voted against women. Women will not forgive them. The opposition’s role is against women, and they have committed a grave injustice, for which women will hold them accountable.”
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey expressed his disappointment, saying, “What could be more unfortunate? If this is implemented based on the 2023 Act, Tamil Nadu will have only 29 out of 39 Lok Sabha seats remaining according to the 2026 census. Similarly, Kerala will have only 14 out of 20 seats. I never thought Congress and M.K. Stalin would do such injustice to South India.”
JDU MP Sanjay Kumar Jha remarked, “The Women Reservation Bill, which was already passed in 2023, has now been reiterated. The Prime Minister and Home Minister have clearly stated that 50% of seats will be added to ensure reservation from the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats, and elections will be conducted under this arrangement in 2029.”
Union Minister Banwari Lal Verma noted, “The opposition’s protest against the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ bill, aimed at ensuring women’s empowerment, has been witnessed by women across the country.”
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal stated, “This was not a protest against delimitation. It is clear that the 33% of women who would enter this Lok Sabha in 2029 have been obstructed. This is not just an insult to women; the opposition has committed betrayal, and their true face has been exposed.”
