New Delhi, April 18: Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan announced that the recently concluded 270th session achieved a remarkable productivity rate of 109.87%. The session lasted for a total of 157 hours and 40 minutes.
He informed members that with the conclusion of the 270th session, the Parliament’s budget session has officially ended.
Radhakrishnan noted that during this session, 117 questions were raised, 446 presentations were made during Zero Hour, and 207 special mentions were recorded.
The budget session holds special significance among the three parliamentary sessions. It is not only the longest but also plays a crucial role in determining the nation’s developmental trajectory.
He emphasized that the approved budget allocations, policies, and confirmed priorities during this session directly impact the lives of every citizen in India.
The session commenced with a discussion on the motion of thanks for the President’s address, which lasted four days. During this time, 79 members actively participated with enthusiasm and dedication. The Prime Minister’s response to the motion provided clarity and context to many issues raised by the members.
The discussion on the Central Budget for 2026-27 was equally in-depth and comprehensive, involving 97 members over four days. Additionally, there was extensive deliberation on the functioning of two major ministries of the government.
The Chairman reported that 50 private member bills were introduced during this session.
He also announced that Harivansh Narayan Singh was elected as the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha for the third time.
Highlighting key events, the Chairman mentioned that besides the discussion on the Central Budget for 2026-27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed ongoing conflicts in West Asia and the challenges the country faces in meeting its energy needs.
