Women Will Never Forgive Opposition: Jayveer Singh

Mumbai, April 18: The political rhetoric has intensified following the failure of the women’s reservation constitutional amendment bill in the Lok Sabha. Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Jayveer Singh targeted the opposition, claiming that women will never forgive them for this setback.

In a conversation with a news agency, Singh stated, “Women empowerment is a significant issue. Those who played a role in defeating this bill will certainly face the consequences. The upcoming elections will prove that women’s votes are not in their favor. There is anger among the women of the country. Even in Parliament, the women MPs expressed their outrage. Opposition members who contributed to the bill’s failure will suffer the repercussions. The opposition has demonstrated that they are against women’s rights.”

He criticized Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi for labeling the situation as a victory for democracy, saying, “They did what they had to do. Now, the opposition must be ready to face the results. The women of this country will respond democratically in the upcoming elections.”

Singh emphasized that the process of legislating the women’s reservation bill has been ongoing for 25-30 years. While all governments have made efforts to introduce it, success has eluded them for various reasons. The current government’s aim was to implement it by 2029, ensuring active participation for women. Regarding the 2023 law, he mentioned that the process would begin post-census, implying it wouldn’t be implemented before 2034. The government sought to amend the constitution to facilitate its implementation by 2029, working towards empowering women.

He also targeted Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, stating, “Democratic values and decorum, both inside and outside the country, have always been upheld by both sides in unity. On issues of national interest and foreign policy, there is no opposition. Consensus is formed on these matters. However, Rahul Gandhi has consistently criticized the government, both domestically and internationally, undermining national security and interests.”

On the topic of caste census, Singh remarked, “The caste census is underway. It is being conducted systematically. Currently, housing counts are being conducted, with the goal of completing the caste census by 2027. Further actions will follow accordingly.”
