Patna, April 18: Tejashwi Yadav, a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha. He asserted that the real agenda is to alter the Constitution.
During a media interaction in Patna, Yadav accused the BJP of attempting to undermine democracy under the guise of supporting women. He emphasized that no party or MP opposes the Women’s Reservation Bill, highlighting the need for clarity on this issue.
Yadav pointed out that the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed in 2023. He insisted that it should include reservations for OBC women as well. “If there are caste-based provisions for men, why not for women?” he questioned, noting that the government ignored this demand.
He further claimed that the bill was hastily introduced during the assembly elections in five states. Initially based on the 2011 census, Yadav argued for it to be updated to reflect the 2025 census to ensure proper representation for backward classes, extremely backward classes, and Dalits.
Yadav accused the BJP of knowing they lacked a two-thirds majority yet presenting the bill to portray themselves as champions of women’s rights. He labeled this move as political theatrics and propaganda.
He asserted that the BJP is using women’s issues as a cover for its intentions to change the Constitution and weaken democracy, vowing that their efforts will be thwarted.
Responding to Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s remarks, Yadav stated that the Chief Minister needs to focus on governance rather than making empty statements. “Bihar has been lagging for 20 years. When will it be among the top five? The treasury is empty; how will it be filled? What is the roadmap for Bihar’s development? What are the plans for employment, trade, and electricity rates?” he questioned, criticizing the rise in electricity tariffs without addressing pressing issues.
Reiterating his stance, Yadav stated that Bihar should be run like Gujarat.
