Ranchi, April 27: BJP leader Pratul Shahdev has expressed confidence that the people of West Bengal are in favor of the BJP as the state approaches its assembly elections. He predicts that a BJP government will take office on May 4, marking the beginning of a new era for the region.
In a conversation in Ranchi, Shahdev highlighted the party’s growth in West Bengal, noting that their progress is commendable. “In 2011, we had zero seats and failed to win even one. By 2016, we increased our seats to three, and in 2021, we surpassed 70. As we move into 2026, we are on the verge of forming a majority government,” he stated.
Shahdev criticized previous administrations, saying, “For 25 years, Congress ruled, followed by 20 years of Communist terror, and then 15 years of Mamata Banerjee’s ruthless governance. These governments targeted Hindus, and police trembled before TMC goons. But now, a new era is about to begin in Bengal.”
Responding to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comments, Shahdev accused her of spreading rumors regarding detention centers. “She must understand that the NRC will be implemented in Bengal,” he added.
In a light-hearted tone, he remarked, “After May 4, Mamata Banerjee will be confined to the pages of her dark history. No matter how hard she tries, the people of Bengal are now with the BJP. The next government will be ours, ensuring development across the state.”
Shahdev also took a jab at the Congress government in Karnataka, stating that wherever Congress forms a government, internal conflicts arise, hindering development. “The situation in Karnataka is dire, with no priority given to progress,” he noted.
Addressing allegations from BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, Shahdev mentioned troubling reports from Mumbai. “It has been alleged that a specific group of Muslims has taken control of schools in Mumbai. We have also heard reports of ‘corporate jihad,’ where Hindu girls are coerced into converting their religion in exchange for promotions and jobs, leading to their exploitation. This is a very dangerous trend. If you pressure conversions by misusing schools, the law will take action. Strict measures should be taken against such schools.”
