BJP Leader Criticizes Oppositions Stance on Womens Reservation Bill

New Delhi, April 18: Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated on Friday that opposition parties have revealed their anti-women stance, evident from their decision to vote against the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in Parliament.

He accused parties like Congress, RJD, and the Samajwadi Party of opposing the increase in parliamentary seats alongside providing 33% reservation for women.

Sachdeva questioned Congress, asking why they did not find it necessary to increase the number of parliamentary seats during the delimitation process from 1971 to 2009.

“We have always been clear that we need the opposition’s support for this noble cause, which they have refused, exposing themselves before over 700 million women in India,” he remarked.

Earlier, during the discussion on the bill in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated, “The women of this country will never forgive Congress and Rahul Gandhi for obstructing the reservation for women.”

He also criticized leaders of the ‘India’ alliance for raising the issue of Muslim reservation, alleging it was motivated by appeasement politics.

Shah emphasized, “The Indian Constitution does not accept reservation based on religion. There are two reasons for this: first, eligibility for reservation should not be attainable through religious conversion; second, reservation is meant for those who are socially and educationally backward or belong to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.”

The Home Minister also condemned opposition parties for attempting to create a divide between the North and South in the proposed delimitation.

He stated, “Southern states have as much right in this house as Northern states. Even the small Lakshadweep has the same rights as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Bihar. This country should not be divided into fragments through a North versus South narrative.”
