New Era of Womens Empowerment: Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar on Nari Shakti Vandan Act

Mumbai, April 15: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party President, Sunetra Pawar, described the Nari Shakti Vandan Act as a “historic and revolutionary step” in the history of Indian democracy on Wednesday.

She stated that this law marks a new chapter in the realm of women’s respect, equality, and empowerment across the nation.

Sunetra Pawar extended heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, reiterating that the Nationalist Congress Party stands firmly in support of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act in Parliament.

She expressed confidence that this historic legislation will serve as a “lifeblood” in realizing the vision of a “developed India” by 2047. Pawar drew parallels between this new law and the rich tradition of women’s leadership in Indian history.

She paid tribute to several remarkable figures, including Rajmata Jijau (who inspired the mantra of Swaraj), Maharani Tarabai (who valiantly defended the state), Ahilyadevi Holkar (who established ideals of justice and welfare), Savitribai Phule (who initiated a revolution in women’s education), Rani Lakshmibai (who displayed courage during the freedom struggle), and Indira Gandhi (who exemplified modern women’s leadership).

Pawar emphasized, “This bill is not just about political reservation. It embodies the glorious tradition of ‘Stree-Shakti’ (women’s power) that has existed in Indian culture for thousands of years.”

She highlighted that this law ensures one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, enabling women from both rural and urban backgrounds to participate in mainstream decision-making processes.

Furthermore, she stated that this law will give new momentum to existing government initiatives like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” and contribute to the overall empowerment of women.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde supported proposed amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act during a special session of Parliament on April 16, stating that this historic step would pave the way for effective implementation of women’s reservations in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, marking a golden chapter in the journey of Indian democracy.

In a letter to Prime Minister Modi, Shinde noted that this initiative is not merely a legislative reform but a revolutionary change aimed at ensuring decisive participation of women in governance and nation-building.
