Kolkata, February 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced on Tuesday its plans to conduct a ‘Parivartan Rath Yatra’ in West Bengal as part of its campaign for the upcoming assembly elections.
While unveiling the program, West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya stated that after 34 years of CPI-M rule, the people gave the Trinamool Congress (TMC) a chance to govern in hopes of change.
However, Bhattacharya emphasized that over the past 15 years, democratic rights in the state have diminished, and corruption has become institutionalized. To convey the message of defeating the TMC in the upcoming elections, the BJP will organize yatra events across the state.
The BJP plans to conduct nine yatra events throughout West Bengal. The journey will commence on March 1 from Cooch Behar South, Krishnanagar South, Garbeta, Raigadi, and Kulti, followed by events on March 2 in Islampur, Sandeshkhali, Hasnabad, and Amta.
This program will pause on March 3 and 4 for Dol Yatra and Holi celebrations. From March 5 to 10, the yatra will cover over 5,000 kilometers, visiting various assembly constituencies.
The initiative aims to hold approximately 60 major and over 300 smaller public meetings. Each assembly area will feature rath, tableaux, and campaign activities. It is reported that the program will conclude with a public meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata at the end of March.
Bhattacharya also hinted that several central leaders from the BJP may be present at the inauguration of the yatra. He urged people from all sections of society to participate in this initiative.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit West Bengal on a brief trip on Wednesday. He is anticipated to arrive at Kolkata Airport in the afternoon and then travel by helicopter to Mayapur in Nadia district. There, he will participate in several programs at the ISKCON temple, spending about two hours there.
Sources indicate that Shah will attend the 152nd birth anniversary celebrations of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur at ISKCON Mayapur. He will first visit Shankh Bhavan, followed by Padma Bhavan, where he may hold a special meeting with Hindu saints and sadhus. Later, he will join the anniversary program.
However, he will not engage in any political activities during this visit. After his time in Mayapur, Shah is expected to return to Delhi on Wednesday evening.
