Mumbai, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : In a tragic incident in Mumbai’s Sakinaka area, Aslam Sheikh lost his life after falling into an open manhole on Khairani Road in July. Following this unfortunate event, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has granted ₹10 lakh in financial assistance to Sheikh’s wife, Anjum Sheikh. She expressed her gratitude to Mayor Ritu Tawde and the municipal administration upon receiving the aid.
The accident occurred on July 2, 2026. After the incident, Mayor Ritu Tawde visited the Sheikh family to offer condolences and assured them of immediate financial support, considering their dire economic situation.
Following the mayor’s directive, the BMC’s L-Division (Kurla) office initiated the process to disburse the funds. Necessary documentation related to Anjum Sheikh’s bank account and inheritance was completed, allowing the ₹10 lakh to be deposited directly into her account.
After receiving the financial aid, Anjum Sheikh submitted a written acknowledgment to the municipal corporation, thanking Mayor Ritu Tawde and the administration for their support. In her letter, she highlighted the immense challenges her family faced and expressed appreciation for the mayor’s commitment to help.
Mayor Ritu Tawde remarked that while no amount of money can replace the loss of a breadwinner, it is the duty of the administration to stand by families in distress. She noted that the sentiments expressed in Anjum Sheikh’s letter inspire the municipal administration to work with greater sensitivity. Tawde emphasized that providing assistance to affected families during difficult times is a responsibility of the administration.
