
Arunachal Pradesh, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Recent discussions between India and China have culminated in a significant milestone. On September 6 and 7, the first senior commander-level flag meeting took place at the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Indian side convened in Wacha, Arunachal Pradesh, while the Chinese delegation met in Damai.
During a bi-weekly media briefing in New Delhi, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted that these meetings were organized following agreements made during earlier consultations and discussions under the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC).
Jaiswal stated, “After the agreements reached between the special representatives of India and China in August 2025 and August 2026, these discussions were crucial. The first senior commander-level flag meeting was held on September 6 in Wacha and on September 7 in Damai. A similar mechanism exists in the western sector as well.”
Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor and special representative on the India-China border issue, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in border areas during the 25th round of talks held in Beijing on August 25.
Doval and Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister and special representative, engaged in a comprehensive and constructive discussion regarding border issues and bilateral relations.
The Ministry of External Affairs noted that both sides are making progress in implementing key agreements reached between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan in October 2024 and Tianjin in August 2025. They expressed satisfaction with the resumption of mutual exchanges and border trade, including the ongoing Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage and three designated trade routes.
Following the meeting, the Ministry released a statement emphasizing that under the strategic guidance of Prime Minister Modi and President Xi, both special representatives exchanged clear and in-depth views on the border issue. They agreed to continue their efforts towards a political resolution of the border question, highlighting the importance of maintaining peace for the ongoing development of bilateral relations.
