New Delhi, June 25: The political controversy surrounding Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has escalated, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launching a fierce attack on Wednesday. The party has demanded a fair forensic investigation into a controversial video clip that has sparked intense debate across the state.
BJP national spokesperson R.P. Singh challenged Chief Minister Mann to move beyond a private agency’s report and submit the disputed footage for a thorough examination at a reliable government laboratory.
In a clear statement on his official X account, Singh said, “If you genuinely believe the video is fake, stop relying on certificates from private operators obtained overnight. Send it immediately to a reputable lab like CFSL Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, or Bhopal. Do not rush; let science reveal the truth. The people of Punjab and the Sikh community deserve the truth, not results tailored to convenience.”
The controversy revolves around an “objectionable” video allegedly featuring Mann. The Chief Minister has dismissed it as fabricated and the work of a trickster.
Mann has also presented his side to the Akal Takht, asserting that the clip is part of a malicious campaign to tarnish his image.
However, the situation took a new turn following arrests made by the Gurugram police in Haryana.
After a complaint from forensic expert Jaspreet Singh, authorities detained two individuals, Ankit from Delhi and Arun from Panchkula.
Singh alleged that senior officials of the Punjab police, including a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and a Superintendent of Police (SP), contacted him and offered ₹10 lakh to create a forensic report favoring their narrative regarding the video.
He claimed that the experts he hired were repeatedly pressured via WhatsApp to alter the draft report until it aligned with government expectations.
The Gurugram police have filed an FIR at the DLF Sector-29 police station, invoking strict sections of the Indian Penal Code, including organized crime, fraud, and tampering with electronic records, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
The two arrested individuals will be presented in court.
BJP leader R.P. Singh described this incident as a “government-sponsored conspiracy” aimed at shielding the Chief Minister from political and religious backlash.
In a post on X, Singh stated, “The truth is emerging in the Bhagwant Mann video case… it has now become a serious criminal investigation.”
He further remarked, “Using fake science and government support to intimidate the community and the public is a significant blow to the Mann government. Resignation is now the only option left.”
