Kolkata, June 12: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again launched a sharp attack on Mamata Banerjee, highlighting the growing internal conflicts within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal. BJP leaders Shishir Bajoria and Locket Chatterjee raised questions about the party’s future in response to controversial remarks made by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee.
Bajoria stated that a political party founded on corruption and theft cannot have a secure future. He noted that TMC’s support base has been steadily declining, straying far from its original principles.
Referencing West Bengal’s political history, Bajoria pointed out that Congress and leftist parties have ruled for extended periods, while TMC’s influence appears to be waning in a relatively short time. He remarked that despite the party’s name containing ‘Trinamool,’ it now lacks both ‘trinam’ (grassroots) and ‘mool’ (roots). Public trust in the party is diminishing, with the BJP emerging as the only strong alternative in the political landscape.
Bajoria also responded to Kalyan Banerjee’s statement suggesting that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee must choose between Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee. He indicated that discontent regarding leadership within the party is evident.
He criticized Abhishek Banerjee, claiming that his political behavior has changed as his power and influence have diminished. The level of dissatisfaction within TMC has escalated, leading to ongoing fragmentation within the party.
On discussions regarding a potential merger of TMC with Congress, Bajoria emphasized that the BJP’s primary goal is to steer West Bengal towards development and good governance. He stated that it is up to the public to decide which party will survive and which will become politically weak. However, he also stressed the importance of a strong opposition in a democracy.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Locket Chatterjee also targeted TMC, stating that while the BJP anticipated political challenges for TMC, the rapid onset of internal crises was unexpected.
Responding to Kalyan Banerjee’s comments, Chatterjee asserted that this is entirely an internal TMC matter and has no bearing on the BJP.
She highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the BJP is focused on the country’s development and welfare agenda. Chatterjee concluded by stating that her party’s attention is directed more towards developmental work and fulfilling public expectations than engaging in political disputes.
