Thiruvananthapuram, February 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to celebrate a historic victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections. This marks the first time the BJP has won in the city, ending over four decades of uninterrupted rule by the Left Democratic Front (LDF). In light of this achievement, Prime Minister Modi has organized a special event for the party’s councilors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally invited a delegation from the BJP, led by Mayor V.V. Rajesh, for a dinner at his official residence on February 13. As part of this event, the BJP has called all 50 of its councilors from the 101-member Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to New Delhi.
According to reports, the BJP councilors will depart for Delhi on February 9 via the Kerala Express. BJP units in various states will hold welcome ceremonies at the stations where the train makes extended stops.
In addition to the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Modi, the delegation will also visit national monuments of significance in the capital. The central leadership has decided to commemorate the results from Thiruvananthapuram, which the party has termed a ‘golden victory’ in the local body elections, as a national milestone.
During this visit, the Thiruvananthapuram Development Document is also expected to be unveiled in Delhi.
Prime Minister Modi previously described the corporation’s results as the ‘beginning of a new era’ and a milestone ‘written in golden letters.’ He also sent personal letters congratulating Mayor Rajesh and Deputy Mayor Asha Nath following the election results.
The BJP achieved power in the corporation with the support of an independent councilor, marking a first for the party. Receiving such an invitation for municipal representatives is considered extraordinary and highlights the political significance the central leadership places on this victory. It is noteworthy that the BJP has no members in the 140-member Kerala Assembly.
