New Delhi, March 20: In a recent gathering in Palam, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for allegedly politicizing the tragic fire incident that occurred in the area. He stated that since the fire broke out, AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Saurabh Bhardwaj, have been deflecting attention from the critical issue of illegal storage of flammable materials by blaming the Fire Department.
During the memorial service, Sachdeva condemned AAP leaders for attempting to disrupt the proceedings, particularly highlighting an altercation between Bhardwaj and BJP MLA Kuldeep Solanki. He accused AAP supporters of trying to exploit the situation for political gain.
Sachdeva emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, noting that the Delhi government has ordered a magistrate’s inquiry and directed relevant ministers to take strict action against unauthorized storage of flammable materials across the National Capital Region. He revealed that media statements from neighbors and witnesses indicated that the lower floors of the building housed warehouses and shops containing large quantities of hazardous materials. The fire ignited and rapidly spread throughout the structure, resulting in multiple fatalities before the Fire Department arrived.
He expressed disappointment over Kejriwal and Bhardwaj’s attempts to distract from the main issue of illegal storage by targeting the Fire Department. Sachdeva asserted that while a thorough investigation is essential, AAP leaders are making baseless statements to derail the ongoing inquiries by magistrates and local police.
According to officials, the fire broke out in a four-story building, which housed a clothing and cosmetics showroom on the basement, ground, and first floors, while the upper levels were occupied by the owner’s family. Emergency services responded promptly after receiving reports of the fire around 7:04 AM, rescuing several individuals and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.
The Delhi government has mandated a magistrate’s investigation to determine the causes of the fire and the circumstances leading to the tragic deaths.
