Patna, August 12: JDU legislator Shyam Rajak has dismissed claims that the liquor ban in Bihar is a failure. He acknowledged minor flaws in the law but emphasized that these can be corrected.
Rajak stated, “The liquor ban in Bihar is not a failure. While there are certainly some errors in its implementation, it is incorrect to label the entire initiative as a failure.”
He pointed out that the biggest challenge following the ban has been the rise of substance abuse. The prevalence of this issue is increasing not just in Bihar but across the country, largely due to the disillusionment among the youth.
“The government needs to enact stricter laws. Those involved in these activities should face severe penalties to reduce such occurrences. Even the harshest punishments would be insufficient,” he added.
Commenting on the announcement by Bankipur MLA Prashant Kishor to provide jobs for 10,000 youths in the private sector, Rajak praised the initiative. He noted that for businesses to thrive, they need manpower, and it is commendable that people will gain employment.
Rajak quipped that instead of just 10,000 jobs, every household in Bihar should have at least one young person employed to ensure a decent livelihood. “Otherwise, mere promises will lead to nothing,” he warned.
He urged not to get carried away by winning one election, stating, “This is the nation, this is Bihar, this is Patna. Capable individuals have been sidelined.”
Rajak emphasized that a legislator’s role is to share in the joys and sorrows of the people. He criticized those who speak as businessmen rather than engaging with constituents in their times of need.
Regarding the ongoing student protests in Jharkhand over the JPSC and JSSC paper leak cases, Rajak called for the immediate dismissal of the education minister. He urged that those responsible should face swift justice through fast-track courts.
“Those involved in leaking papers are jeopardizing the futures of the country’s promising youth. The penalties for such actions should be severe,” he asserted.
On the amendment bill for the FCRA sent to the JPC by the central government, Rajak stated that this is a matter of national interest, and both the ruling and opposition parties should unite. He expressed that if everyone prioritized the nation’s welfare, the bill would have been passed unanimously. He noted that the JPC will review the bill, and any identified flaws will be corrected before it is passed.
As the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign approaches on August 15, Rajak remarked that the national flag is not merely a piece of cloth. It symbolizes the sacrifices of the nation’s soldiers and a long struggle for independence. He urged every Indian to bow in respect to the flag, emphasizing that it belongs to all citizens, transcending caste and religion.
