Finance Minister Sitharaman to Attend BRICS Meeting in Jaipur

Jaipur, August 12: Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will participate in a two-day meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors from BRICS nations, taking place in Jaipur. This significant meeting, held under India’s BRICS presidency, aims to enhance cooperation on global economic and financial issues.

The meeting will commence at 11:15 AM at the Rambagh Palace Hotel in Jaipur. Finance ministers and central bank governors from all 11 BRICS member countries will attend. Key topics for discussion include economic growth, financial liberalization, risk management, and global financial stability.

Sanjay Malhotra, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), arrived in Jaipur late Tuesday night. During the inaugural session, Finance Minister Sitharaman and RBI Governor Malhotra will share their insights on crucial issues related to the economies of BRICS nations and central banking.

Upon arrival in Jaipur, the Finance Minister was welcomed by Rajasthan’s Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Kumar, Chief Secretary V. Srinivasan, and BJP State President Madan Rathore.

The meeting will continue until 12:30 PM on Thursday, where representatives from member countries will discuss global economic challenges, investment, financial cooperation, and the opportunities and risks facing emerging economies.

In addition to the meeting, a special program will introduce foreign delegates to Rajasthan’s cultural heritage. On Wednesday at 5 PM, all delegates will visit the Jaipur City Palace, where a cultural program showcasing Rajasthan’s rich traditions will be held.

Notably, the annual meeting of BRICS finance ministers and central bank governors began nearly 18 years ago during the global financial crisis. Over time, this platform has become a vital forum for discussing global economic and financial challenges.

This is the second time Jaipur is hosting this meeting; it previously took place in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on economic recovery, vaccination, digital health, social infrastructure, financial inclusion, and the European Union’s carbon border adjustment mechanism.
