
New Delhi, April 1: In a meeting chaired by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Bihar’s Agriculture Minister Ramkripal Yadav made a strong case for special central assistance to boost the agricultural sector in Bihar. The meeting took place on Wednesday in New Delhi.
Minister Yadav presented a detailed letter outlining key agricultural demands for the state. He expressed gratitude to Chouhan for approving the purchase of lentils at the minimum support price for the first time in Bihar. Additionally, he urged the minister to initiate the purchase of chickpeas, mustard, and other oilseed crops at the minimum support price.
Yadav also requested that Bihar be recognized as a priority state for pulse and oilseed production, seeking additional support under central schemes. He specifically mentioned the need for enhanced assistance through the National Agricultural Development Scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, and the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission.
During the meeting, Minister Chouhan assured that the central government is committed to advancing agriculture in Bihar. He promised to consider a special agricultural development package tailored for the state. Yadav noted that over 4.7 million farmers in Bihar have already registered for a Farmer ID.
He provided an update on fertilizer availability in the state, stating that as of April 1, there are 277,000 metric tons of urea, 146,000 metric tons of DAP, 211,000 metric tons of NPK, 43,000 metric tons of MOP, and 102,000 metric tons of SSP available. Yadav emphasized that a continuous supply of fertilizers is being ensured based on farmers’ needs.
