
Siwan, June 29: The Bihar police have successfully solved two separate theft cases involving temples in Siwan district. In one incident, police arrested two suspects within hours of the crime and recovered two stolen gold necklaces. In the second case, a statue made of Ashtadhatu, a snake of Lord Shiva, and a temple bell were recovered, leading to the arrest of one individual.
According to police reports, on June 28, unknown thieves stole two gold necklaces from the Durga temple located on Kachhari Road in the municipal area. Upon receiving the information, the Superintendent of Police, along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and the local station chief, arrived at the scene to investigate. Utilizing footage from nearby CCTV cameras and technical evidence, police were able to apprehend two suspects, including a woman, within just four hours.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vikas Kumar from the Mufassil police station area and a woman whose identity has not been disclosed. Police recovered both stolen gold necklaces from their possession. Authorities noted that the arrested woman has a prior criminal history, while Vikas Kumar has previous cases registered against him for theft, fraud, and other offenses. Investigations into his criminal record are ongoing.
In another case, police successfully resolved the theft of a statue of Lord Hanuman, a snake of Lord Shiva, and a temple bell from the Shiv temple in Pakwalia village, located in the Barharia police station area. During technical investigations, police received information that a person was attempting to sell the stolen religious items at a scrap shop. Acting on this tip-off, police swiftly arrested the suspect, identified as Dhaneshwar Mahto, also known as Dhannu, from Chainchapra in the Barharia area.
During the search, police recovered the stolen Ashtadhatu statue of Lord Hanuman, the snake of Lord Shiva, and the temple bell from his possession. Authorities stated that the recovered items are being prepared for return to their respective temples, and further legal actions are underway based on the interrogations of the arrested suspects.
