Kabul, July 17: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, police in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province seized 241 kilograms of illegal narcotics. During this crackdown, nine suspected traffickers were arrested.
According to the government news agency Bakhtar, special police forces conducted separate raids in the Pul-e-Begam and Tashkan areas, recovering drugs from a vehicle and a residential property. All nine detainees are currently being interrogated.
Authorities stated that the campaign against drug trafficking and related crimes will continue across the country.
Just a day prior, in the western Nimroz province, anti-narcotics police seized 84 kilograms of opium, 130 kilograms of methamphetamine, and over 200 kilograms of chemicals used in the production of opium and heroin during various operations. Seven individuals were also arrested in connection with these cases.
On Wednesday, police in northern Badakhshan publicly destroyed 730 kilograms of opium as part of their anti-drug campaign.
Earlier, on July 4, police in northern Takhar province confiscated 60 kilograms of illegal narcotics and arrested two suspected traffickers during a special operation. The traffickers had hidden 52 kilograms of opium and 8 kilograms of hashish in secret compartments of their vehicle, which were discovered during the search.
Additionally, on July 2, security forces in eastern Ghazni province thwarted a major trafficking network by seizing 215 kilograms of opium.
Security agencies in Afghanistan are actively conducting operations to curb drug trafficking, leading to significant drug seizures and arrests of traffickers in several provinces in recent days.
