Patna, May 27: The Bihar government has ramped up its campaign against corruption. In a significant operation, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) conducted extensive raids on a government official. The Block Development Officer (BDO) has been accused of accumulating assets far exceeding his known income during his tenure.
On Wednesday, the EOU simultaneously raided six locations linked to Chandra Mohan Paswan, the BDO of the Kevati block in Darbhanga.
Initial investigations suggest that the official has allegedly amassed assets approximately 81.03% greater than his declared income. The value of this disproportionate wealth is estimated at around ₹89.13 lakh. Following the inquiry, the EOU has filed a case against Paswan under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
These raids commenced after the EOU obtained a search warrant from the Special Vigilance Court in Muzaffarpur on Tuesday. The operation targeted residential and commercial properties in the Bahadurpur area of Darbhanga, a ancestral home and business premises in Madhubani’s Babubarhi block, and official offices and residences in the Kevati block of Darbhanga. The EOU stated that the investigation is ongoing, with several financial records under review.
Earlier, on May 15, the EOU had raided properties linked to Gopal Kumar, an executive engineer stationed in the rural works division of the Jhajha block in Jamui district. Initial findings revealed alleged disproportionate assets worth approximately ₹2.006 crore, which is about 81.5% more than his known income. Following searches at multiple properties in Patna’s Kankarbagh area, Jamui, and the Jhajha rural works division office, an FIR was registered under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The EOU teams have scrutinized bank account details, investment records, land and property documents, jewelry, and other movable and immovable assets.
Officials believe that these search operations may uncover additional financial transaction records and crucial documentary evidence.
These raids are viewed as part of a broader initiative by the Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, to enhance transparency and accountability within the administration.
