Patna, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : A one-day brainstorming session focused on the challenges posed by nematodes in crops was held on Saturday at Bihar Agricultural University, overseen by the Directorate of Research and the Department of Entomology.
Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, the university’s Director of Research, chaired the event. Dr. Nishi Kashyap from Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University in Pusa, Samastipur, served as the keynote speaker. She elaborated on the significance of nematodes in agriculture, detailing the damage they inflict on food and horticultural crops, along with innovative integrated management strategies.
The session attracted over 80 participants, including Dr. Rajesh Kumar, the university’s Director of Administration, Dr. Ruby Rani, Principal of Bihar Agricultural College, Dr. Chanda Kushwaha, Associate Director of Research, Dr. Kiran Kumari, Head of the Entomology Department, Dr. J.N. Srivastava, Head of the Plant Pathology Department, faculty members from various departments, and postgraduate students.
Dr. A.K. Singh highlighted the growing issues related to nematodes due to climate change and encouraged students to explore new agricultural entrepreneurship opportunities in plant protection. He emphasized that such events would raise awareness about nematodes and provide momentum for ongoing research at the university.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar also raised concerns about the global challenges posed by nematodes in agriculture, stressing the need for targeted action plans. Dr. Ruby Rani expressed her worries about the increasing prevalence of nematodes in horticultural crops and called for scientific intervention.
Dr. Kiran Kumari shared her experiences, discussing the importance of nematodes and the damage they cause to crops, as well as detailing the projects and efforts undertaken by her department.
The event commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp by esteemed guests. Dr. Anukaran Sahu, the organizing secretary, expressed gratitude to the attendees and provided an overview of the session’s objectives. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma facilitated the program, while Dr. Ramanuj Vishwakarma thanked all participants, faculty members, and students for their active involvement.
