Student organizations have been actively protesting since the incident. On Tuesday, the Mumbai Crime Branch recorded statements from Sahil’s parents as part of their ongoing inquiry. Authorities plan to conduct further questioning to gather more information.
Officials revealed that Sahil owned a locked iPhone, prompting them to seek technical assistance to unlock the device. Accessing the phone is critical to uncovering details, including his history, which may help verify claims made surrounding the case.
Additionally, a representative from IIT Bombay noted the presence of an SC-ST cell and a student counseling center at the institute. These resources are available for students experiencing difficulties. The police intend to inquire with both facilities to determine if Sahil had previously lodged any complaints or sought counseling.
On Monday, IIT Bombay refuted claims that the institution’s director, Shirish B. Kedare, had resigned following the student’s death. The institute clarified on social media platform X that these reports were unfounded. They emphasized that the director remains in his position and labeled the rumors as false.
Furthermore, IIT Bombay issued an apology for earlier statements regarding the circumstances surrounding Sahil’s death. The institute assured that a thorough investigation is being conducted by the appropriate authorities. In related developments, the director announced the immediate suspension of Professor Tula from the dean’s role, promising that further action will follow the investigation’s findings.
