International Agronomy Day Workshop Held at Bihar Agricultural University

Bhagalpur, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) in Sabour, Bhagalpur, hosted a special one-day workshop on the occasion of International Agronomy Day, organized by the Indian Society of Agronomy (ISA), BAU Sabour Chapter. The central theme of the workshop was “Reimagining Agronomy for Developed India 2047.”

University officials, scientists, professors, and postgraduate students participated in discussions aimed at making future agriculture more sustainable, climate-resilient, resource-efficient, and technology-driven.

In his keynote address, Dr. A.K. Singh, Director of Research and President of the ISA BAU Sabour Chapter, emphasized the vital role of agriculture in achieving the goal of a “Developed India” by 2047. He stressed the need for developing agronomic techniques that enhance productivity and farmers’ income while ensuring the conservation of soil, water, and other natural resources.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dean of PG Studies and Secretary of the ISA BAU Sabour Chapter, highlighted the importance of better coordination between higher education, research, and innovation. He noted that future agricultural scientists must be proficient in climate-smart agronomy, precision agriculture, and digital farming technologies.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Director of Administration and Vice President of the ISA BAU Sabour Chapter, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting research and innovation. He called for strengthening effective agricultural extension mechanisms to disseminate laboratory-developed technologies to farmers’ fields.

Dr. S. Acharya, Treasurer of the ISA BAU Sabour Chapter, outlined the chapter’s activities and organizational framework, expressing gratitude to the officials, scientists, professors, and students present at the event.

The workshop included technical discussions on vital topics such as sustainable agriculture, soil health and climate adaptation, resource-use efficiency, digital and precision agriculture, drone technology, and crop diversification. Speakers emphasized the need for agronomy to shift from a traditional production-centric approach to a sustainable, technology-driven, and farmer-focused perspective in light of changing climate conditions, increasing pressure on natural resources, and rising food demands.

The active participation of scientists and professors from various university departments underscored the necessity of redefining research, education, and innovation in agriculture to align with the vision of a “Developed India 2047.”
