Moga, August 5: Bhupesh Baghel, General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and in-charge of Punjab, stated on Wednesday that during his visits to 12 districts, he has witnessed overwhelming support for Congress in its bid to return to power in the state.
While addressing the ‘Har Booth, Congress Majboot’ program, Baghel expressed that, based on his extensive political experience, he believes the people of Punjab view Congress as the only viable alternative to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, which has failed to meet public promises and expectations.
He pointed out the deteriorating state of the economy and law and order, claiming that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has plunged Punjab into debt and substance abuse issues.
Baghel emphasized that no one feels safe in Punjab, as criminals operate with impunity, committing murders. He remarked that the state has never witnessed such chaos before.
Highlighting the need to strengthen the party, Baghel mentioned that under the AICC’s ‘Organizational Direction Program,’ efforts are underway to bolster the party at the grassroots and booth levels.
He congratulated Punjab Congress leadership for appointing booth-level agents across all polling stations. Baghel urged grassroots workers to be the flag bearers of the party, asserting that no major leader can win elections without grassroots support.
He also criticized both the AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of attempting to disrupt and distract from Congress’s initiatives. He recounted how the AAP had put up hoardings urging him to ‘Go Back.’
Baghel noted that these actions reflect the anxiety of political rivals in Punjab. During the event, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding expressed satisfaction with the response to the party’s programs.
He mentioned that such extensive planning for these programs had never been done before, yet people voluntarily participated. He added that this enthusiasm has caused some individuals both within and outside the party to panic, leading them to try to disrupt the events.
