Raipur, May 12: Political reactions have intensified following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for citizens to exercise economic restraint. Bhupesh Baghel, former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and Congress leader, launched a sharp attack on both Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the soaring gold prices and the nation’s economic situation.
Baghel remarked that it seems the Prime Minister has finally awakened to the issue. Gold prices, which had reached ₹1.5 lakh, soared to ₹1.86 lakh, yet Modi remained silent during that period.
He further accused the central government of failing to address concerns during conflicts in West Asia. “While there was war in West Asia, they chose to remain silent. Now that the elections are over, they suddenly have a lot to say,” Baghel stated.
The Congress leader claimed that the opposition had repeatedly warned the government about the economic challenges facing the country, but the BJP ignored these concerns. “While the opposition was consistently raising this issue and warning of a crisis, the Prime Minister and the entire BJP insisted that we were misleading the public,” he added.
Baghel demanded an apology from BJP leaders, asserting that now that the Prime Minister has acknowledged the situation, all those leaders should apologize to the nation.
Targeting Modi over the economic landscape, Baghel emphasized that the Prime Minister is responsible for the impending economic crisis.
In addition, Baghel responded to former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comments on opposition unity, mocking her political strategy. “She realized it too late. The BJP was never present there. You (Banerjee) once stated that the BJP is our natural ally. Now, when everything is over, you have come to this realization,” he concluded.
