Mumbai, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian stock market will be closed on September 14, 2026, in observance of Ganesh Chaturthi. Both the BSE and NSE will halt trading across equity, equity derivatives, and currency derivatives segments. Trading will resume on September 15, 2026.
According to the holiday schedule, no transactions will occur in the equity segment, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, NDS-RST, and tri-party repo on this day. However, there will be partial trading in commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts (EGR). The commodity market will remain closed from 9 AM to 5 PM, with trading set to restart after 5 PM.
September 14 marks the only holiday for the stock market in this month. Following Ganesh Chaturthi, the market will also close on several other occasions in 2026: October 2 for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, October 20 for Dussehra, November 10 for Diwali Balipratipada, November 24 for Guru Nanak Jayanti, and December 25 for Christmas.
In the week leading up to the holiday, the Indian stock market faced a decline for the fifth consecutive week. The Nifty 50 index fell over 2%, closing at 23,398, while the Sensex dropped approximately 2.27% to end at 74,781. Rising crude oil prices and the yield on U.S. 10-year bonds were significant factors pressuring the market.
Ganesh Chaturthi, celebrated on September 14 this year, is a significant festival in Hindu culture. It is believed that Lord Ganesha was born at noon, making this time particularly auspicious for his worship and installation.
Investors will need to wait until the next trading session on September 15, while limited trading will continue in the commodity market during the evening session.
