Darwin, August 11: The two-Test series between Australia and Bangladesh is set to begin on August 13, with the second Test starting on August 22. Australian all-rounder Beau Webster views this series as a crucial opportunity to secure his place in the team.
The 32-year-old Webster stated on Tuesday, “The biggest lesson I’ve learned since my debut is that I can perform well at this level. Before the first Test, the question was, ‘Do you feel ready?’ I told myself, ‘Absolutely,’ but you don’t truly know until you face bowlers from other countries and are expected to perform under pressure in front of a large crowd. That has been the most important lesson over the past 12 months.”
He added, “I’ve earned my spot in this team by scoring runs. Being a batsman means making runs, and that’s how I’ve managed to come into and stay in the team. What I’ve achieved with the bat in my first eight Tests suggests that I could be viewed as a genuine top-six batter.”
Webster anticipates tough competition from Cameron Green for a spot in the playing eleven. He remarked, “I don’t see why it can’t happen. Having more options with the ball in the top seven is definitely beneficial. I don’t view it as direct competition. It provides the captain with more options and advantages only when both of us are performing well with the bat and in the field.”
He expressed his enjoyment of playing alongside Cameron, saying, “I like seeing who performs well with the ball. We can adapt when needed. Therefore, I’m very happy. I focus on performing with both bat and ball, making it difficult for management to leave me out of the eleven.”
Webster has scored 452 runs, including five half-centuries, in 13 innings across 8 Tests for Australia, while also taking 11 wickets.
