Patna, August 3: The results of the by-election for the Bankipur Assembly seat in Bihar will be announced on Monday. Counting of votes will commence at 8 AM at AN College. The police administration has made extensive arrangements for this event.
Initially, postal ballots will be counted, followed by electronic voting machine (EVM) votes after a 30-minute interval. Results for each phase will be declared alongside the counting process. Votes cast at 422 polling stations will be counted in 30 phases. The counting will take place at 14 tables, with approximately 50 staff members deployed in addition to reserved personnel. The counting process is expected to conclude by around 4 PM.
According to the Election Commission, the by-election held on Thursday saw an average voter turnout of 34.16%.
The Bankipur seat became vacant after BJP National President Nitin Nabin resigned from his legislative position upon being elected to the Rajya Sabha. In this by-election, the BJP has fielded Neeraj Kumar Sinha, while Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraj Party, is also contesting. Rekha Gupta is representing the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). In total, there are 25 candidates in the fray.
Interestingly, the BJP has not lost an election in Bankipur since 1995. Nitin Nabin himself has been elected as MLA from this constituency four consecutive times. However, the outcome of this seat will not impact the assembly, as the NDA already holds a full majority in Bihar.
In light of the by-election counting, strict security measures have been implemented near AN College in Patna. The police have diverted traffic on several routes leading to the college.
