Washington, August 3: President Donald Trump announced that negotiations with Iran will commence on Monday afternoon. He revealed that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar have urged the U.S. to halt planned attacks against Iran.
While en route to Joint Base Andrews aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters, “A deal has been made regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and then there will be a deal concerning nuclear issues, or you could refer to it as Iran’s nuclear disarmament.”
The U.S. President claimed that Iran had also requested the United States to withdraw its planned attacks. He stated, “What we are doing now is talking to them as part of negotiations.”
According to U.S. officials speaking to Axios, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud spoke with Trump on Saturday, expressing concern and seeking clarification on the proposed actions against Iran.
Reports from the Xinhua news agency indicate that Pakistan, Qatar, the UAE, Turkey, and other nations have also called for de-escalation of tensions between the U.S. and Iran to prevent further conflict.
Earlier on Sunday, Trump mentioned that the U.S. had agreed to postpone its planned military strikes against Iran, as Tehran and several Middle Eastern countries requested a halt. He asserted that a framework for a potential agreement has been established.
Trump stated, “The U.S. is fully prepared and ready to attack the Islamic Republic of Iran with full force.” However, he noted that Iran and other Middle Eastern nations have appealed to Washington to delay military action. According to Trump, the proposed agreement would involve the immediate and complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the elimination of Iran’s nuclear threat.
He added, “Based on this appeal, I have agreed to halt the attack for the future of the world and for a successful and prosperous Iran, provided we can quickly reach a deal.”
Trump also claimed that Israel has supported the decision to pursue diplomatic avenues, stating, “Israel is with me on this commitment. Everyone get to work and make it happen.”
