Asansol, August 3: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shatrughan Sinha has sharply criticized the central government and the defection of opposition MPs. He stated that the youth and Gen-Z taking to the streets have left the ruling party in silence. He also commented on the defection of rebel TMC leaders to the NCP, saying, “There must be some compulsion; no one becomes disloyal without reason.”
Speaking to reporters in Asansol, Sinha remarked, “Our youth, our students, and Gen-Z have come forward in such a way that it seems the government has gone completely silent. Parliament is not functioning even for a minute. The government has opened a marketplace for buying and selling MPs. The ruling party made significant efforts in this regard.”
He raised questions about the motives of defecting leaders, stating, “Those who have suddenly switched sides did not do so to serve the country or their motherland. It’s not that they suddenly realized they could serve the nation better there, or that they could only do so through our friends in the BJP. This is perplexing. The intention behind their departure is worth pondering. Those who remain loyal to Didi are commendable. The ones who have stuck around are truly impressive, much like what happened with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.”
Regarding the defection of a rebel TMC MP to the NCP, Sinha expressed, “In my personal opinion, the number of people with you is not as significant as the support you receive. Those who have left, especially in such a manner, sometimes it feels like it’s for the best that they departed now.”
He added, “They left before the ‘Shaheed Diwas’ on the 21st. If they had left later, the situation would have been even more challenging. What if Mamata Banerjee had received some relief and then they left?”
Sinha targeted the rebel leaders, stating, “All of them were made by Didi. They used to praise her and chant Abhishek Banerjee’s name. Then suddenly, they blame Abhishek Banerjee and leave the party. Did they leave for money or out of fear? There must be some compulsion; no one becomes disloyal without reason.”
