New Delhi, June 24: Indian fast bowler Avesh Khan has stated that maintaining consistency in performance is essential for retaining a spot in the national team, more so than mere talent.
Currently out of the Indian team, Avesh addressed questions regarding his return in a recent interview. He mentioned, “If you perform consistently well, you will remain in the team. Consistency is the key to securing and maintaining your place.”
Avesh added, “I am not part of the national team right now. I will focus on performing well in the Ranji Trophy and other domestic tournaments. My aim is to help my team win matches so that I can return to the position I deserve. After the Madhya Pradesh Premier League (MPL), I will work further on my fitness and bowling.”
When asked about the challenges faced by bowlers in T20 cricket, Avesh acknowledged, “T20 is a tough format for bowlers, but I believe there is an opportunity to excel. If you innovate with the new ball as a fast bowler or spinner, you can succeed. I always look for chances to perform well, which includes learning new skills and improving myself. I always feel that I can dominate batsmen as a bowler.”
Currently, there is intense competition among fast bowlers for a place in the Indian team. Avesh views this rivalry as motivation rather than a challenge. “I have played for the Indian team, so I am always inspired as a fast bowler. My desire to play for India is my biggest motivation,” he stated.
According to Avesh, “Playing in domestic cricket, franchise leagues, and MPL offers the greatest advantage of learning from a variety of players. You get to play alongside both young and experienced players. The IPL provides many learning opportunities, which is rewarding.”
Avesh is part of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL. He praised the team environment, calling it their greatest strength.
Reflecting on his experiences with LSG, Avesh said, “My experience has been very good. Over the past two years, the results haven’t favored us, but we have always stayed united as a team. We constantly think about where we are and strive to improve. We aim to enhance the good aspects, which makes our team atmosphere very positive.”
Avesh noted that their coaches, like their captains, maintain a positive environment to ensure that disappointing performances do not affect players’ mindsets.
Through domestic cricket and the IPL, Avesh Khan continues to hold strong aspirations for a return to the Indian team. The 29-year-old right-arm fast bowler has taken 9 wickets in 8 ODIs and 27 wickets in 25 T20 matches for India. His last appearance for the national team was on November 10, 2024. Avesh plays domestic cricket for Madhya Pradesh, where he has claimed 180 wickets in 49 first-class matches and 49 wickets in 42 List A matches.
