Chennai, September 2: Indian badminton star PV Sindhu expressed her excitement for the upcoming Asian Games 2026 in Japan, stating she is fully prepared for the tournament. She shared her joy at becoming the first Indian to win the Japan Open.
Sindhu attended the launch event for the Asian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship 2026, which will take place from October 26 to 29 in Tamil Nadu, featuring athletes from 13 countries. During her interaction with reporters, she said, “I am very happy to have won the Japan Open title, and I am thrilled that everything is going well. We will soon be heading to the Asian Games, and I am very excited about it. I am here today for the tennis ball cricket league, and it brings me great joy to be present. I wish everyone and the Tennis Ball Cricket Association the very best.”
She further added, “I am glad that the Tennis Ball Cricket Association is organizing such a league, where athletes can participate enthusiastically. This league will provide athletes with an opportunity to showcase their skills. I wish all the athletes a strong performance in this league. I hope this league receives significant support from the government. Clearly, the government’s support has always been there, and we are all very grateful for it.”
Sindhu’s recent performance at the BWF World Championship 2026, held in India, was disappointing. She lost in the Round of 16 to Chinese player Wang Zhi Yi, who won the match 21-11, 15-21, and 21-17. India managed to secure only one bronze medal in that tournament. With this in mind, Sindhu aims to deliver an outstanding performance at the Asian Games 2026. She has previously won a bronze and a silver medal at the Asian Games, securing bronze in 2014 and silver in 2018.
