Bengaluru, September 2: In a gripping match at the KSLTA World Tennis Tour Junior J30 event, top seed Tejas Ravi faced a tough challenge from fellow Indian Amrit Dhankar, while other seeded players advanced towards the quarter-finals.
On Wednesday at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium in Bengaluru, Tejas secured a hard-fought victory against Amrit in the Round of 16, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. In the girls’ category, Joha Qureshi pulled off a major upset by defeating top seed Shaivi Gaurav Dalal 6-3, 6-3, while second seed Kartika Padmakumar had a disappointing day, retiring against Akshita Antil while trailing 4-6, 2-3.
Local player and fourth seed Shrinithi Chaudhary made a comeback after losing the first set, defeating Anjali Meka 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. The home crowd had more reasons to cheer as two other seeded players also performed well. Third seed Disha Kumar displayed excellent form, beating Tanushree Maneni Satish 6-1, 6-2, while fifth seed Ahida Singh continued her impressive run with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Deepti Venkatesan.
Seventeen-year-old Tejas started strong, breaking Amrit’s serve in the very first game. Although Amrit quickly retaliated, Tejas broke serve twice more to take a commanding 5-1 lead. He lost his serve in the seventh game but managed to close the first set 6-3.
The second set saw a dramatic shift. Tejas fell behind 0-3 but fought back, breaking Amrit’s serve twice to lead 5-3. Just when it seemed Tejas had control, Amrit rallied back, breaking serve and winning four consecutive games to take the set 7-5. However, the decisive set took an unexpected turn when Amrit twisted his ankle at 1-1. Seizing the opportunity, Tejas ramped up his aggression, winning the next five games to clinch the match 6-1.
